Great Ideas of Humanity
In 1952 Walter Paepcke, founder of Container Corporation of America, initiated an unprecedented advertising campaign entitled the Great Ideas of Western Man. The Great Ideas campaign engaged world-famous artists to interpret quotes from the great philosophers of western civilization.
In 2015 the Chicago Design Museum renewed this historic series and retitled it, the Great Ideas of Humanity. The work has been showcased at the Loop Link Bus Rapid Transit stations in downtown Chicago, the 2016 Business of Design Week in Hong Kong, and The Center for Lost Arts, Chicago.
The poster features a quote from Benjamin Franklin: “Those that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety.’’
